How We Met

We first met in 2012 at Joe's dads annual Labor Day party in Vermont. LuLu happened to be in town and attended the party one afternoon with her family. We met briefly that day, but didn't think much of it. A few days later our parents discovered we had similar flight times at the same airport and arranged for LuLu to ride with Joe and his father. After arriving at the airport and having lunch we went our separate ways. It just so happened that shortly after that both of our flights were cancelled, so we met back up. We spent hours discussing music, travel, culture, and future aspirations. Our imaginations soared as we dreamt up elaborate plans to go on a cross-country road trip and have grand adventures. We eventually caught our separate flights, but remained in touch and not long after began our lives together.

After completing part of the trip in 2013, from the east coast to Texas, we are channeling those younger selves and continuing the exploration of North America together. As a way to document our trips (and to aid in diminishing Lulu’s instinctive tendencies to collect things as memorabilia) this digital scrapbook was born. We're trekking across the country by a curated list of recommendations. Oftentimes the best places are hidden gems that we find out about by word of mouth so if you know somewhere that we should visit, please get in touch!

LuLu

My unconventional upbringing of perpetual travel and exploration fostered my vagabond soul. I spent most of my childhood travelling the country in a station wagon. When not on the road, I could be found soaking up sun on Floridian islands or in the lush back country of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the summers I was nestled within a quiet village in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. I’ve lived long-term in various places but have never had the feeling of being rooted. After living in Austin, TX for the last five years my restlessness of being in one place too long has set in. Though I’ve fallen in love with Oceania and Europe, for me it’s important to explore our country before settling elsewhere. Therefore the open road of North America awaits.

Joe

Being born and raised in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, I never really knew much other than green trees, mountains and small town life. Vermont was a great place to grow up but I always wanted to explore other places. When I got older and had my own car, I started traveling with friends. We went on a few road trips and by the time I finished school I had seen all of the states east of the Mississippi river. I graduated from college and moved to Austin, Texas to see what it was like to live somewhere else. Shortly after that I met LuLu and brought her back to Texas with me. After being here for 5 years we are ready to see what else is out there. LuLu would like to travel the world, but I have always wanted to see the rest of our country first. The plan was devised to road trip the United States and visit all of the states we have not seen. Once we finish that who knows what is next!
